| VOLLEYBALL: Visitors Newcastle held all all the aces as they
romped to a 3-0 success over Warwick-based Riga in the National League Division
One. Riga, without broken ankle victim Phil Leach who is out for the rest of the season, were given a lesson in consistency and concentration by their West Midlands rivals. Riga lost the first set 15-9 after being 8-5 in front at one point and they suffered a disaster in the second set, crashing 15-6 in under 15 minutes. Richard Meade found his serving form for Riga in the third set to put his side 4-1 up and Tom Young contributed well as the lead was stretched to 11-7 but the visitors then took control to bounce back in style and establish a 15-12 winning margin. 'We only have ourselves to blame," said Riga captain Tom Young. "We had a game plan, which, when we used it, brought us success but we were not consistent enough to do it all the time." Riga's West Midlands League side continue to top the table after a 3-1 win. |
