| THE Nuneaton-based Riga Volleyball Club have to rebuild their
women's team because most of the regular players became mums. Mr Tom Ojasoo, the club's Press officer, said: "We are having to start all over again after having quite a useful team. "The women played in Division I of the Birmingham and District League and started to do well. But a lot of the players got married and started families." Any local girls interested in taking up the sport should contact the women's captain, Wendy Darwin, on Chapel End xxxxxx. Riga. who play their home matches at the Etone Sports Centre, Nuneaton, warmed up for their new season in Division II of the National Men's League by winning a tournament in Bruhl West Germany, for the second year running. They were invited as defending champions and won four of their five matches in the event which involved nine other teams, all from Germany. Riga, strengthened by the Signing of a Polish player, Henrik Lakomy from Loughborough Rockets, have tournaments, in Leeds and Liverpool before opening their new season on the weekend of October 11/12 with away, games against Portsmouth and Bedminster |
