Oakley doubt for Riga

GARY OAKLEY is battling to get fit for Riga's showdown with Polonia Ealing at Warwick's St Nicholas Park on Saturday (6.00pm).

He was injured during the defeat against Leeds which nudged Riga down into fifth place - just ahead of Saturday's visitors - and although Riga can call on former England man Mike Percival, they will miss Oakley's cultured contribution.

The last Riga-Polonia match was a classic confrontation settled by a hotly-contested decision at rally-point in the fifth set.

The London outfit are led by Great Britain international Jurek Jankowski and Riga skipper Tom Young said: "They will be out for our scalps - not only will they want revenge for that defeat, they will also want to get above us in the league."

"We want to get back a bit of pride following our performance against Leeds, so it should be a great match."

RIGA Ladies wrapped up their first National League double of the season when they tamed Leicester Sound and hosts Milton Keynes.

They edged out Milton Keynes in a five-set thriller, outside players Jayne Warman and Sally Hodge putting them in charge with some powerful hitting and newcomer Amanda Squires producing an inspired attack to clinch the decider 15-13.

Riga dropped the opening set against Leicester but steady setter Justine Sutton put them on course for a 3-1 decision.
