Riga hit by double

RIGA had a lean time in Bristol against two very different volleyball opponents. Against Bristol Polytechnic, the Coventry side struggled to find form, allowing Bristol to gradually take control of the game. England player Turner star for Bristol who won 15-11, 15-8, 15-3.

Having been well thrashed by an ordinary-looking side. Riga knew their game had to improve to take on K.O. Cup winners Speedwell.

Riga started well, taking the first six points without reply, but found it hard holding Speedwell , as they gained their rhythm to take the set 15-7.

Speedwell's powerful play  continued through England stars Ashman and Pincot. Riga looked like a side close to defeat as they fell 15-4 in the second set, but their attack was transformed in the next set to take a 15-13 decision.
The next set was close but eventually a single mistake by Riga's defence allowed Speedwell a 17-15 victory.
