Narrow defeat

Nuneaton Riga Volleyball team's National Cup challenge ended in a marrow defeat at Weymouth yesterday.

But second division Riga put up a tremendous struggle before going down by three sets to one in one hour forty minutes.

Club spokesman Tom Ojasoo said today: "It was a really close game that could have gone either way before Weymouth clinched it".

"Although they were from a league above us we were hoping to beat them."
Scoring throughout the match was extremely tight with Riga competing well against a side with perhaps the best defensive line-up un the National League.

Weymouth took the first two sets 15-13 and 17-15 - although Riga came desperately close to winning in the second.

In a tight third set the visitors came back well to win 16-14 but their challenge faded and Weymouth clinched a third round place with a 15-9 win in the fourth set.
