Nuneaton Evening Tribune, 27th October 1980
| Riga Nuneaton Volleyball Club had a mixed weekend in their
National League Division Two matches. On Saturday they produced a disappointing display to fall 3-1 to a very young Ounsdale side, with Riga giving away almost ten years a man. Shaken by their first defeat of the season, Riga came back strongly yesterday to beat Sandwell 3 - 1 to make it three wins out of four since the start of the campaign. Mike Darwin was devastating in the attack yesterday and Riga's blocking also showed improvement. Great retrieving from setters John Clarke and Frank Gahan enabled them to keep constant pressure on a weak Sandwell defence. Riga set out on the cup trail next Saturday with a first round tie against Deeside at Etone - and they will he looking for revenge, as the Deesiders cost Riga promotion to the First Division last season when they beat the local side in an end-of-season encounter. |
