RELEGATION-threatened Sheffield came to St Nicholas Park and whipped Warwick Rig 3-0 in a National League Division One contest. For Riga, whose top flight status was safe, it was the last match of the season - and a result which raises more questions than it answers about next season. With former England player Mike Percival back in action the side promised to show what it can really do and threatened it when the excellent play of Pascal Cottet and skipper Tom Young opened a 6-2 first set lead. But Sheffield took six points in a row and seized the 15-9 initiative. Riga again put the early pressure on their young visitors in set two only to be pegged back An injury to Ben Bunn handicapped the home side and they slid to 15-12 defeat. The script was again followed in the third, Riga led, Sheffield hit back and a 15-9 victory sealed a vital result for them. Coventry Evening Telegraph report |
