| A PATCHED up Warwick Riga side failed to complete a National
League Division One double on Saturday. Bristol visitors Whitefield avenged an earlier defeat on their own court by winning 3-2 at St. Nicholas Park. Other results continue to favour Riga however and they should be safe from relegation. Work calls caused Mike Percival to pull out, while Simeon Ncx's training was restricted by illness. Riga introduced new signing, Frenchman Pascal Cottet, however, and they established a 12-4 first set lead thanks to fine serving by Nex and John Gilling. Whitefield recovered to 12-10 down before Warwick clinched it 15-12. The second and third sets went badly wrong for the home side who were, beaten 15-10 each time. They bounced back to win the fourth 15-9. Skipper Tom Young urged the. team on, and Cottet made his mark, the pair creating the rally point to set up the final set decider. Both sides had their moments, and at 10-10 there was everything to play for. Riga's service reception wavered again and the visitors capitalised to win 15- 10. "We had our chances to take the match" said Young. "We just weren't consistent enough to take them. Cottet had a great game, and will be a valuable asset," |
