AGM

July 2007

19 July saw Riga's annual AGM held at Musmajs Wolston. Members of every team from the Club turned out to debate some of the key issues for the Club and decide how to take the Club forward for 07/08.

The Club celebrated the success of the men's second team who won Men's Div 3 this season! They gained promotion to Men's Div 2 for the 2007/8 season and are looking forward to the challenges this will offer them. Above Zano (Club President) awards Tom Young Junior with the league winners trophy. Well done to the guys - a great result for the season - and best of luck next year.

Other highlights of the AGM were:

- Martin reported on the Club's finances and the challenges facing the Club during the coming season. It was agreed taht membership fees would be increased from £50 to £60 (and concessions to be increased from £25 to £30). Subs will remain as per last season.

- the Club name will remain as Riga Volleyball Club. However, the EVA league rules require that each team must have a place name associated with it. It was decided that the two first teams (whose main home venue is Alan Higgs in Coventry) would be called Coventry Riga Volleyball Club and the two second teams (whose main home venue is St Nicks in Warwick) would be called Warwick Riga Volleyball Club for the purposes of entry to the league.

- Club Accreditation - the Club is working towards the Volley 1, 2, 3 accreditation. Jayne is taking the lead on this initiative. The Club's progress is recorded on the FAQs section of this website. Please review this for more details.

- Club logo - Michele presented the Club logo (modelled on our very own John Gilling!). A few tweaks are to be made by Michele/Dan/Chris (Kiwi) and then the logo can be adpoted and used by all. Standard club colours (for kit etc) were discussed. The committe is to consider these and advise after its first meeting.

- Clare and Rich have stood down as women's second team secretary and men's second team secretary respectively. Rich to concentrate on the new arrival to his family and Clare to concentrate on updating this site! We welcome Tom Spijkers as the new men's second team secretary (supported by Andy Collins) and Ellie Beattie (supported by the rest of the team!) as the women's second team secretary.

- Julie Bromell has agreed to take on the role of Child Welfare Officer and was duly elected to this office. Tomasz Mowaski (despite doign the job all last season!) was formally elected as Junior Development Officer.

- All other committee members remain unchanged.

- All Club members are to consider any potential sponsorship opportunities.

- Website - All Club members to provide Clare with updates and match reports during next season so that we can fully celebrate our successes and keep all Club members (and those of you interested in the Club from near and afar!) updated of our antics (sorry, i mean activities!!). See the Club FAQs section for the match report form! You can now also navigate to us from www.coventryvolleyball.co.uk and www.coventryvolleyball.org.uk

- UK Sport Games - Riga is supporting the UK sport games and we need volunteers to take up and put down the special floor that is being installed at Alan Higgs for this. Please contact Dan if you are able to help out.

That's all folks!
