Prosport NVL Division One, 19th February 2005
Newcastle (Staffs) 2 Warwick Riga 3 (24-26
25-22 10-25 25-21 14-16)
| In a see-saw encounter the home-side ran the Riga boys close but did not have enough to dent the Warwick sides hopes of a top 3 finish. | |
| Okay let’s set the scene. It is the fifth set and it had been an up and down game until this point, seeing some great and beginner style volleyball from both teams, including many hilarious handball throws from Staffs ace Zippy, otherwise known as David Lovell. If only we could zip him up!!!!! | |
| Staffs had the advantage in the fifth leading 14-12, in sight of a much needed victory to help them move away from the relegation zone. Staffs manage to give Pennock a good pass from the Warwick serve, leading to a great reverse set to Zippy with Warwick setter Phil Wyles to beat. Wyles leaps into the air and Zippy cleverly strikes the ball into the middle of Wyles’ block which is stuffed straight to the floor, giving Riga a life-line and a swing in the momentum. A few unforced errors later and good Warwick play gave Warwick the victory taking the last set 16-14. |

| A poor game in Division 1 terms, but I believe that the better team, but also the most inconsistent team won in the end. | |
