Match Report by Steven Beasley
Riga 2 hosted Cambridge 2 on Sunday for a First round cup match. Despite a close 2-3 defeat, they are progressing as a team and developing their offensive arsenal. Riga came out strong winning the first two sets 25-20 and 25-20 respectively. Andy Collins held his ground at the net making a couple key blocks and attacks early in the match. Tom Spijkers maintain a strong presence in 4.
The 3rd and 4th sets fell short as Riga struggled to return some difficult jump serves. A couple rotations saw Riga fall back 3 or 4 points. The Men did not close this margin and lost these sets 13-25 and 19-25.
In the fifth set the men gave an excellent effort staying within 1 point of Cambridge before changing sides. The second half was in Cambridge's favour as they opened their lead on Riga and claimed the 5th set 15-11.
