Seconds sniff sweet smell of success

Prosport NVL Division 3E, 21st September 2003

Danes 0 Warwick Riga II 3 (28-30 21-25 19-25)
Warwick Riga II 3 Chelmsford Partners 0 (25-20 27-25 25-16)

Warwick Riga 2 started their season with two solid victories on the weekend beating last years runners-up in the league, St Clement Danes. Whilst the opposition were rather disappointing particularly Chelmsford, Riga rarely lost their composure and character throughout the 3-0 victories. The shape and the depth of the side in these early encounters shows great promise for the future and one cannot fail to recognise the determination and attitude of the players throughout what may have been a tricky weekend away from home.

Luca and Graham : Consistent passing
Consistent passing from Graham Duckett and Luca Molinari provided a platform for the setter to distribute the ball, providing opportunities for the hitters to put away the attacks early and not get involved in a 'dog-fight' with a solid opposition defence. With players trying out for different positions hitters never failed to impress with a high kill rate and intelligent 'wipe-outs' off the opposition block. However, most impressive was the block line and technical ability already at an early stage of development. Further work on back-court defensive routines should ensure that the ball is kept live in future matches.
