Tonbridge 0 Warwick Riga II 3 17-25 21-25 13-25
Warwick Riga II 3 Chelmsford Partners 1 23-25 25-21 25-20 25-21
| Following an unusually quick trip from the Midlands to Tonbridge only a missing score pad delayed the 3–0 win Riga’s Men’s 2nd team had been waiting for over top of the table Tonbridge. With some stylish and some not so stylish play from Riga the first set was taken 25–17. The second, an all together closer affair finished 25–21 with the third being closed out 25–13. | |
| The return fixture to be played at St. Nicks in March could prove to be the league decider if both teams keep up their winning ways. | |
| Game 2 : Chelmsford. With a 50% change to the line up that faced Tonbridge it was always going to be a tough start to the first set. Riga were not firing on all cylinders and the dogged determination and consistency from Chelmsford saw the first set lost 23–25. With a stiff talking to and a change to the line up the 2nd set was secured 25–21. The third set was as hard fought as the previous two but with some good pickups and inventive play by Danny ‘Mr Tickle arms’ Turnbull it was secured 25–20. |
Mr Tickle : inventive play |
| Not wanting for it to go to a fifth set Riga started by throwing good points after bad – again largely due the solid play of Chelmsford. With some solid serving, good pickups and useful hitting the fourth set was taken 25–21 (a bit too close for comfort). | |
| To top the day the journey home was straight forward and Graham & Dan were even back in time for the final of the Darts!!! | |
| The next match for the men’s 2nd team is Sunday the 18th Jan in the Plate against Exeter Heat (top of Div 3 West at the time of writing this). As always, support for the match would be most welcome. Warm up is 12:00. | |
