| Riga ladies first team travelled to Leeds this weekend to play against
Leeds, who are currently eighth in the League. They look safe to avoid
relegation and have gained a few strong players recently. In the first
half of the season Riga beat Leeds 3-0 and went trekking up the country early on Sunday morning hoping to repeat this performance. The team did not disappoint. Riga got off to a quick start taking a lead of 11-3 with some consistent tactical serving from Lisa. Leeds fought back for a few points but could not prevent the flawless attacking and defensive play by Riga. The set finished off 25-10, a strong win reflecting some quality play from Riga with minimal errors. In the 2nd set Riga took an early lead, which was quality matched by the Leeds side. There was some strong attacking from both sides with some effective middle hitting by Julia. At 21-21 Leeds' efforts to move ahead of Riga were quickly prevented by strong defense from Celine. Riga finally got back into their rhythm with Michelle serving to finish up the set 25-22. Riga once again had a quick start in the 3rd set. Leeds scraped back a few points, but found it difficult to find space on court with Riga's excellent defense and some impressive pick-ups back court from Julia. This boosted Riga's confidence combined with some great kills from Celine down the line and Chloe finding the space with some sharp powerful cross-court hits. The set finished with a clear and dominant result of 25-12. |
