Riga ladies second team entered the Whitefield tournament with a small but perfectly formed team of 6 players ( Tina , Ruth, Sylvie, Sally, Nora and Sarah ). Spurred on by Tina - I'm going to see Robbie tonight Perkins , the team cruised to 3 victories and just 1 very narrow defeat on the Saturday. Our best match came with a 2 -0 win over TH Lynx, revenge for the NL defeats suffered earlier in the season and thanks to Martin for supporting us in the rain during this tight game.
Saturday night highlights were provided by Nora in the Ben and Jerries ice cream parlour and Sylvie ( I've lost my jumper ) and after drinking loads of red wine in bath's best Italian restaurant - Capettis - the team retired for an early night to ensure we were on top form for the Sunday games ( lies , all lies ). Tina made the dumb decision of going to see R . Williams in Milton Keynes rather than spend an evening watching Ruth getting tipsy - and she still made it back to bath for the Sunday morning games.
The team got off to a bad start, losing to Charlies' Angels ( again !!)and winging about the refs, our hangovers, aching muscles, the weather , not starting until 11.00 despite getting up early etc and then , after 2 hours of moaning, everything changed. Riga stormed to 2 wins against the top 2 teams from the other pool ( well, we actually won by 1 and 2 points respectively ) and ended the tournament by finishing 3rd in ladies div 2 . So, a cracking weekend and the team is looking forward to next season in div 3 .
