NL Division 3E, 30th September 2001
Guildford 3
Warwick Riga II 0 (25-16 25-13 25-18)
Riga ladies second team had a tough opening match away to Guildford and with a team depleted by illness. We knew the match would be hard as Guildford just lost out via the play offs to promotion to div 2 last season. However, Riga stormed into an early 5 -1 lead which considering we were trying out a new service receive position - was a promising start.
Guildford were spurred into improving their game and took the first set 25 - 16. Riga never got going in the second set and lost 25 - 13. The final set turned out to be our best - with a more determined attitude setting in , Riga were point for point for most of the set. Guildford's stronger attack proved decisive and they took the set 25 - 18. Riga's performance at both the start and end of the match was encouraging and the team looked comfortable with the new " receive on 3 " positions. We have a number of areas to work on, ready for our next game on October 13th ( home to Norwich and Chiltern ) and our squad has been strengthened by 2 new signings.
