NL Division 3E, 23rd February 2003
Warwick Riga II 3 Norwich 0 (25 -17, 25-14, 25 -22)
Warwick Riga II 3
Ashcombe Dorking II 1(25-27, 19-25, 25-20, 27-25, 16-14)
Riga Ladies raced to the top of Div 3 east with 2 impressive wins against UEA Norwich and high flying Ashcombe Dorking II.
First up was Norwich and Riga stormed to a 3-0 victory. The highlight of
this excellent performance was Emma Wood who decided to take on Norwich
single-handedly in set 2. She came on to serve at 6-4 up and won a straight 16
points on her serve to take the team to 22 - 4 up.
Riga 's second game was against stiffer opposition in Ashcombe. Again, another
fine performance from everyone and we took the match by 3 sets to 1. So, with 2
games to go, the team are top of Division 3 East and , more importantly, our
destiny is in our own hands. We have 2 games to go in a convoluted play off
system and if we win them both - then Division 2 beckons.
Our next game is March 9th against the 4th place team - Chiltern Ladies - and
then we play the 2nd/3rd placed team - so watch this space for the teams
progress. An excellent day for the team and many thanks to all the men's second
team and supporters who helped out with scoring and line judging - many thanks
guys.
