Prosport NVL Division 2, 23rd November 2003
Warwick Riga II 1 City of Salford 3 (20-25 25-20 9-25 18-25)
|
Riga ladies tough start in Division 2 continued at the weekend with the return game against high flying Salford VC. We had faced the Manchester team in our opening game of the season and its fair to say that we were a little caught out by the pace of the game. However, since then, the team has progressed well and despite a blip against Sheffield, the team is in much more confident mood and several recent tough training sessions have seen an all round improvement in performance. The test now for the team was to turn good training performances into victories. |

Jayne : several winning blocks in 2nd set |
Our first set against Salford was very close and went point for point
up to the final minutes. Salford clinched the set 25-20 despite some excellent play from the Warwick
team. Set 2 was also very close - Riga were playing excellent volleyball with everyone contributing - highlight of the set was several winning blocks from Ginny and Jayne - note that it was 'blocks' plural. Riga took the set 25-20 and clearly rattled the Manchester team. |

Not a lot that can be said about set 3 - Riga got off to a poor start and never got into the set.
We lost it 25-9 as our concentration went. Set 4 saw a much stronger performance from Riga - once
again, some excellent hitting from everyone and yet more winning blocks! Salford though upped their
game with stronger hitting and just took the set 25-18 and the match by 3 sets to 1. |
