NL Division 3E, 9th December 2001
TH Lynx 3 Warwick Riga 2 1 (29-27 25-16 22-25 25-14)
Ashcombe 3 Warwick Riga 2 1 ()
| Riga ladies second team travelled to London on Sunday for 2 games against tough opposition. TH Lynx are currently undefeated and Ashcombe were a div 2 side last year so we knew the games would be hard. | |
| The first match was against TH Lynx and a marathon first set saw both
teams reach set point but were unable to clinch the deciding point. Finally , it was the
Londoners who took the set 29-27 . Riga lost the second 25-16 and then started playing much better in the 3rd set. Clare Francis made her debut as setter and there were stronger contributions from many players as Riga took the set, 25-22 - only the 3rd set TH Lynx have dropped this season A disappointing 4th set saw Riga unable to capitalise and they lost the set 25 - 14 and the match 3- 1. |

| The second game against Ashcombe was also disappointing and the team succumbed to a poor 3 -1 defeat. | |
| Coach Sarah Halling said : " We had too many players making too many mistakes and we lost a good opportunity to gain a valuable win against a higher placed team. The plus points were good performances from Ana and Clare, both of whom played well. The team has now got to regroup for the second half of the season and get back to playing at the standard we are capable . We've clearly shown that we have the ability to match the stronger teams in div 3 and our next games on Jan 13th will give us the opportunity to show what we can do ". | |
