Riga Ladies 2 travelled to Norwich last weekend , and as it was Jayne's
birthday , we decided to make a weekend of it by heading off to East Anglia on
the Saturday afternoon. Thanks to Ginny and Nettie for organising everything
and on the Saturday night , we hit Norwich city centre and found a superb
Italian restaurant.
Several of the team have developed a recent taste for red wine and managed to out drink Sarah - that takes some doing and then the younger members of the squad checked out the night life and leaving the more mature players to head back to our very posh hotel. Onto the volleyball - for the first time this season, coach John had a full squad of 11 players to chose from. Our first match was a relatively easy 3- 0 win against Tees. Everyone got court time and we knew that this victory would take us to the top of the league. |
| Our second game was against Norwich who are also aiming for automatic promotion. The first set saw Riga race into an early lead and then we're not quite sure what happened !! Norwich caught up, we started doing our registered charity impersonation by donating vast numbers of points to the opposition , and before we knew it , we'd lost the set. |
| Set 2 was very close , but we also managed to let that slip away , set 3 we won and then set 4 saw the Riga team come back from 18 -11 down to level the scores at 23 -23. We couldn't quite clinch the set , and lost it and the match by 3 -1 . However , we are top of the league and our destiny is in our own hands for the rest of the season. |
| Out next 2 matches are this weekend against Nottingham and Loughborough students - top of the table clashes so watch this space for the latest news. |
