Riga recorded their worst result in many years on Sunday at the AT7 centre, in Coventry by finishing 7th out 8th. The tournament which Riga have dominated on numerous occasions in the past was an open invitation format with men's and mixed teams competing in two pools of four for the first half of the day.
Riga got off to a bad start against their old rivals Rugby before Chris Nason came on and stabilised the team but they never managed to recover the deficit and lost the match (which was a timed set of 20 minutes).
Warwick University, the favourites proved two strong in the second match while AT7 who also had one of their strongest teams in recent years edged out Riga in close third match.
Riga ended up in the loser pool in the afternoon, facing Rugby again and though having the lead at certain points in the match eventually lost at the final whistle. Riga did beat Kineton, a school team coached and captained by Danny Showler (of our first team), but it wasn't a good day at the office for Riga.
