If you wish to challenge the Riga Veterans and can put together a team with 300 years or over (i.e. average age over 50) on to a court then please contact the club at veterans@rigavolleyball.com.

Zano was a founder member of the Riga club
back in the 1950's and played in the 1st team as recently as 1986 (Zano
turned out against Bradford in NL Div 2 on the occasion of his 65th
birthday). Was reputedly world-class when he was in his twenties (in the days when a dig counted as two-touches) and still shows he can still perform even now - although these days he has more bionic parts than Steve Austin (Sorry! 1970's TV reference - Six Million dollar man ) |

70+ Ray Liepa Anywhere he shouldn't! |
Ray joined Riga in the 1960's had has been
with the club ever since. As well as playing Ray does an awful lot of
refereeing (or is that a lot of awful refereeing - just joking Ray!) and has
refereed for Warwick University since I was there & I'm not saying how
long ago that was! A stalwart member of the Riga veterans side. |

|
50+ Andy Miervaldis Outside |
Another veteran of the Birmingham &
District and West Midlands sides Andy was only edged out of the Men's 2nd
team last year by all those French blokes! Still training regularly
on Thursday nights Andy is a vital cog in the vet's touring side. |
|
|
|
"Dad" (and it's not Dave writing
this!) retired from 1st team action in 1981 but has remained very active in
the club ever since. Was a founder member of the Leeds agiR team that played
in NL Div 3 in 1982. He can still be seen strutting his stuff on Thursday nights but has also recently been seen doing some refereeing! |
50+ Anywhere he likes! |
|
|
Veteran of the Birmingham & District
and West Midlands sides. Valdis has played for the club for many years and is
another long term Thursday nighter! Pioneer of electronic communication within the club. |

"Martfart" has played for Riga since
the 1970's and played for the first team until1982. Was a founder member
& indeed instigator of the Leeds agiR team. Has held many roles within
the club including secretary, Ladies 1st team coach and is currently the
clubs treasurer. |

50+ Setter |
"JJ" puts his skills to good use for
the veterans side - in this case finding a player still standing on the front
court to set to. John played regularly for
the 1st team up till his 40's and is now coaching the Ladies 2nd team in
their first season in National League Division 2. |

Eric was a founder member of the reborn Riga
in 1972 and played with the 1st team until the mid 1980s. He is a regular
tourer with the vets side to Belgium |

50+ Setter |
"Florence" has been a long standing
member of the veterans side having been in the first team from the 1970's
till the mid 1980's. Don't see so much of him
as we used to do but I'm sure he'll put that right soon |

Jayne now plays with the Ladies 2nd team next
year - although would still have no trouble holding her own in the 1st team
if she really wanted to. Will add a touch of glamour to the Vets team - just take a look at the mug shots above to see how badly that is needed! |

40+ Off-setter |
Now living in Liverpool, but still a member of
the Club and making frequent guest appearances from time to time!. |

You'd better believe it. Tom is here now and
has already made the odd guest appearance for the veterans side in Belgium. |

40+ Libero/Utility |
The newest recruit to the Riga Veterans side -
Sarah tasted success with the Ladies 2nd team last year and wants more of the
same with the veterans. |
