Riga Women's 2nd Team

National League Division 3 (Central)

Lynette Purkis

After playing in the back court for 4 years as the 1st teams libero, Netti moved down to the 2nd team for their foray into Division 2 in 2003. Returning after maternity leave Netty is one of our most versatile players, so who knows where she'll be playing this season!! Watch this space!

Jane Kinnis

Opposite/Middle

This season Jane has dusted off her knee pads to re-join the ladies' second team. Another versatile player, Jayne adds much needed height to the squad - watch out for that killer block!

Ellie, former member of Cardiff volleyball club, has joined the team for the 2006/7 season. Ellie brings height (!) and strength to the team with some excellent middle heating.

Ellie is also team secretary organising the fixtures, referees, match reports and other general jobs to keep the team running to order!!   W2secretary@rigavolleyball.com

Jayne Warman

Jayne is affectionately known as the "Mother Hen". She has previously enjoyed success in NVL in Div 3, 2 and 1 for Birmingham and Riga under then coach Tom Young.

Amanda has played libero for the team for a couple of years, but for the 2006/7 season she is making her debut as an outside hitter.

Clare Francis

Setter

Clare joined Riga in 2001 and she shares the setting duties with Virginia. Clare is hanging up her clipboard for women's 2 secretary duties and is tapping on the keys instead as the Club's webmaster.

Maja, our very tall Polish import player, joined the squad in 2005 and despite claiming she was only staying for one season, is still with us for the 2007/8 season! Enjoying volleyball just too much to go home!

Emma Young

Setter

Emma has re-joined the women’s second team this year to bring the average age of the team down to something more acceptable!!!

Penny Smith

Penny joined Riga in 2002 and is now a permanent fixture in the team and in the team’s social scene often seen with a glass of red in her hand…!

Penny enjoys the game and has taken an active role in coaching local teams from time to time.

Virginia Rennie

Setter & Captain

The team's captain whose favourite word has become "Control". Protests at having to play 10 sets in one day especially if she has to run during any of them!
w2captain@rigavolleyball.com

Michele transferred from Leicester City after their demise, in September 1999. (Should have done this sooner.) She played in the team that won promotion from Division Two to Division One and then played in the women's inaugural season in the top flight. She now puts that experience to good use and is helping the 2nd team to win promotion again. Michele's now trasnferred to the first team, but we hope to have her back soon!

Michele is also Riga's General Secretary the email address for which is generalsecretary@rigavolleyball.com

Sarah Halling

Universal

Sarah, a longstanding member of the Riga team, is a universal player who will try her hand at any position from libero through to middle (well, with the exception of setter of course!!!)

Jeanine (aka Mashy Cat) is a New Zealander! Never seen without her tag out, Jeanine also competes in Triathlons which involves some interesting wet suit measurement taking…

Jeanine is concentrating on her triathlon during the autumn, but we hope to see her back on the court soon!

Tomasz Mowaski

Coach

Tomasz has taken over coaching the Ladies 2nd team for the 2007/8 season. Tomasz also coaches Riga's junior team. Not sure if he realises just what he has let himself in for with a womens' team though!! W2coach@rigavolleyball.com
