Set 1 got off to a slow start which was punctuated by passing errors from Tameside’s strong service pressure.  Riga then took control and gained a 5 point lead.  This lead however, was quickly clawed back by Tameside through some reckless high risk serving which paid off.  Tameside took the set 25 - 22.

In the second set Riga came out fighting and took a commanding 10 - 4 lead. The passing unit got it together, therefore leading to some fantastic hitting from Anna Meister and Alex Smith.  Julia Werdich then nailed a string of serves and left Tameside in all sorts of trouble. Riga were on top of their game, recycling balls and building confidence, the team closed out the set 25 - 12.

With renewed strength Riga hit the court running, Juliane Laetsch taking control of the middle running some great attacks.  Lisa Purcell took some close balls from the net creating fabulous attacking plays.  Tameside stuck with it trading points with Riga keeping their hopes alive by making many amazing pick ups.  Riga then forced a run of points at the end of the set and won the set with a convincing score line of 25 - 18.

Tameside with nothing to lose and pride on the line came out on the front foot and it was point for point at the start.  Until Riga re established the middle and formed a stronger defensive line with Anna Meister holding firm down the line picking up some powerful hits from Tameside.  A strong run of serves from Alex Smith helped Riga take the set 25 - 18, with an ace to finish.
